FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
All homework is due the next day, unless stated otherwise.
If homework is turned in one day late, I will deduct 10 percentage points (1 letter grade). If homework is not turned in the day it is due or the following school day (which is considered late and a letter grade is taken away), you will lose one letter grade until the assignment is a zero. No homework is accepted if it is turned in after four days. Example: If a homework assignment is assigned on Monday and is due Tuesday, a zero will be given if the assignment is turned in on Friday or later.
Absence Policy: You will have two days for every one day of absence to complete make-up work. Students will not be penalized for missing assignments when they are absent. However, it is the student's responsibility to complete missed work.
Homework assignments are posted daily in the classroom. It is the student's responsibility to write down homework in his or her assignment book and complete the assignments. It is possible for students to have homework on a weekend.
I check in homework everyday. If your child does not have his or her assignment(s) completed for the day, they will need to fill out paperwork to document that they did not do their homework. After the paperwork has been filled out, the student will call home to either leave a message or tell someone at home that he or she needs a reminder to complete the missing assignment at home by the next day. The student may also lose recess for the day (hopefully they will spend this time finishing the assignment).

Behavior Policy
Dear Parent (s),
Fifth Grade is an important school year for your child. As your child’s teacher, I am concerned with the need to maintain an effective school learning climate in order to maximize time to learn. I enjoy teaching, and I want your child to enjoy the learning process as well.
Our class will be guided by Character Counts! Traits:
Respect:
· Listen and follow directions
· Talk/sit appropriately
Caring:
· Keep hands, feet, objects, and inappropriate comments to yourself
Responsibility:
· Be prepared for class with assignments and supplies
Citizenship:
· Walk in the school building
· Work for the common good
Trustworthiness:
· Be Truthful
Fairness:
· Play Fair
As the individuals and whole class follows these guidelines, they will earn ticket punches for incentives. I believe that when students show outstanding behavior and do their best, they deserve small privileges.
If a student chooses not to abide by these guidelines, he/she will then follow the consequences:
1st time: Verbal Warning
2nd time: Complete a “Beahvior” sheet or write a letter explaining behavior.
3rd time: Potentially miss one privilege and call home in addition to completing a
“Behavior” sheet (this will need to be signed by a guardian and returned)
4th time: Conference with parents and student
5th time: Conference with the principal and all of the above
SEVERE Clause: sent to principal immediately
Chronic infractions: Conference with student/parent/ teacher
However, I do believe in the Love and Logic approach and will be using techniques to help each student if a small conflict arises. I feel that each discipline issue is unique and not all situations require the same consequence. Therefore, I will treat each discipline situation as its own unique problem. I believe that through shared control and choices the students will have opportunities to do what is best for the learning environment.
At school I am responsible for the discipline of the children. However, I believe parents are primarily responsible for establishing and maintaining the foundations of responsible behavior in their children.
During the school year, if you have any questions or concerns please send a note to school, call me at school and leave a voicemail message at 636-2944, or dial “0” to have the secretary contact me, or I can be reached at my e-mail: [email protected] as well.
Communication between parent and teacher is of vital importance in helping your child to have a happy and successful year.
